The Geneva Palliative Care Network
Palliative care is fundamentally based on interprofessionality.
Providing the best possible comfort to a person suffering from an incurable illness, and supporting them and their loved ones throughout the palliative care journey, requires the involvement of multiple, sometimes unexpected, areas of expertise.
And this is where the Geneva palliative care network plays a crucial role. Palliative genève provides you with access to all forms of assistance, support and care, whether psychological, medical, social or spiritual, available and listed throughout the canton of Geneva.

In Neighboring France
Palliative care is based on interdisciplinarity; professionals and other participants are complementary. In this section, you will find specialized professionals according to care settings.
In France, access to palliative care is a right for all, enshrined in the law of June 9, 1999.
Everyone can thus benefit from access to palliative care whether in hospital, at home, or in medical-social establishments housing elderly people (EHPAD) or related to disability.
Several specialized structures exist in France: Mobile Palliative Care Teams (EMSP), Palliative Care Units (USP), Identified Palliative Care Beds (LISP), and networks.
However, the palliative approach should be able to be integrated by all caregivers.
In neighboring France (Haute Savoie, Pays de Gex, and Bellegarde sector), there are no USPs.
The public hospitals in the different territories of Haute-Savoie (Annecy Genevois Hospital Center for Annecy and St Julien, Hôpitaux du Léman for Thonon, Alpes Léman Hospital Center for Annemasse-Bonneville, and Pays du Mont Blanc Hospitals for Sallanches-Chamonix) have EMSPs that advise and support the palliative approach.
They have intra-hospital activities and sometimes extra-hospital activities (home and medical-social establishments).
The Faucigny and Oncoleman networks have been in the process of merging since January 2016 with the 3 Lacs and Montagne diabetes network to create the ACCCESS support network: they work in collaboration to coordinate complex home care for fragile patients to promote home maintenance.
You can reach them at the single number: 04 80 95 50 55
In each hospital territory, there is a public Home Hospitalization linked to the hospital.
In the Annecy sector, there is a private structure, HAD Haute Savoie Sud.
In clinics, local hospitals, and rehabilitation centers, there are often palliative care referents and palliative care reception modalities (LISP or other).
Among these, certain structures, such as the Praz Coutant Medical Center, the “La Marteraye” Follow-up and Care Center, the MGEN center in Evian, “La Tour” hospital, and the Savoie Nord private hospital, have organized care oriented towards palliative care in certain sectors.

It should be noted that assisted suicide does not exist in France and that euthanasia is prohibited.
However, the Leonetti laws of 2005 and Leonetti Claeys of 2016 allow for the discontinuation of treatments that artificially maintain life, and the implementation of deep and terminal sedation under specific conditions.
These laws have reaffirmed the right and necessity for all citizens to have access to palliative care and support, regardless of the choice to initiate, continue, limit or discontinue any treatment.
You can find more information about palliative care in France on the SFAP (French Society for Palliative Care and Support) website: SFAP
